I had no idea cosmetic eye surgery was so common in Japan, and I can’t believe I never noticed this before. I understand models are supposed to keep their eyes wide, and I’m willing to bet this Youtube video could have mismatched some photos, but…hint: there are just not that many Japanese celebrities. You see the same Goddamn 5 everywhere. This video features so many of the ones that I know that it feels like the path to stardom invariably begins like an episode of Nip/Tuck.
The amazing part is that the people left of center in the video look like Japanese people. People I see everyday. The people on the right…look like celebrities. Projections from another dimension. The disconnect hits me all at once.
I know this is nothing new. Plastic surgery is big business. What this video shows me is how absolutely vital “Western-eye” is to your career.
